Director's Story
A building upbringing
Hi, I’m Daniel, the owner and director of Kwaliteit Constructions. Growing up, building was in my blood – my dad is a builder and structural engineer. After migrating from the Netherlands my grandfather and his brother started their own construction company. It was then taken over by my father and uncle. My parents eventually took sole ownership of the company and ran it successfully for many years, so construction has always been a part of who I am.
I started on the tools right after high school, honing my craft and skills. At 26, I made the move to Melbourne, seeking new challenges and opportunities. Two years later, I found myself in London, where I continued to learn and grow in the construction industry.
My wife (girlfriend at the time, Dominique) and I moved to London in early 2017 and then returned in 2019 to get married and start a new chapter in our lives.
In London I was working with a residential renovation construction company, firstly as the leading hand carpenter before turning into a site manager on large-scale, high-end extensions and renovations (at one point I was working on a house in the same street as Madonna & Rowan Atkinson!)
On my return to Melbourne, I was working as a site supervisor
for a sustainably driven construction company based in the northern suburbs. We transformed tired, leaky old houses into high performance homes for the future.
I learnt a lot from both of these experiences, in very different ways. London taught me how following correct and complex building practises can lead to homes standing strong for hundreds of years. As well as how to work on large scale projects with very limited space. Melbourne has taught me how you can transform a space and create a high performing home in any environment.
International experience

One of my standout projects was supervising a 4-storey renovation in Chelsea, London, with a large extension at the rear. Very limited access and parking meant we had to have great communication and people skills in such an affluent area. I was hands on, building the roof, new floors and walls whilst managing a core team of 8, as well as all of the sub-contractors. It was an amazing project to be a part of and I truly got a taste of what building thoroughly and with quality means. Understanding exactly why English houses can last so long.
A move to Melbourne
In late 2019 we decided it was time to come home to Melbourne. We had got engaged in Somerset in the UK the previous year and were ready to start a new chapter in our lives, get married and start a family.

Over the years I have created and grown a people-focused culture because I strongly believe that communication is the key to an efficient and effective project process and job well executed.
